Organic Farming Tech is a resource and blog following Kate and my travels around New England and eventually Around the World.
John is a 25 year old lighting technician in New York City. He rides his bike to work and in competitions. He takes pictures, and loves spanish food.
Kate is a 24 year old graduate student at Hunter College in NY City. She is a runner, a writer, an editor, and future educator.

In the spring of 2010 Kate and I will be taking small trips to farms around New England. Bike trips like NY City to Philadelphia, NY City to Canada, and NY City to Shelter Island on Long Island. We will also be talking to organic farmers in our immediate area and getting involved with the organic community. Starting in April of 2011 I'm going to head out on my bicycle from the East Coast of the United States and head West through the center of the country.

The idea being to stop off at organic farms along my route interviewing farmers and food producers. I'm interested in the tools, techniques, and technologies they use on a day to day basis. Our interviews and information will be posted on this site for everyone to read.
What we are looking to do is figure out how good food is produced, and why people should choose it over "conventionally produced" food. We want to help bridge the gap between the passionate farmer and the nervous but open-minded consumer.
After I have crossed the US, Kate will join me and together we will head to New Zealand, Australia, Southeast Asia, through the Middle East and into Europe.
We will also be promoting good food and healthy lifestyles. We are hoping that our trip and the efforts we are making will encourage people to think twice about what they put on their plate and into their mouths. Food related diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease, and obesity, are growing epidemics in the world and particularly in the United States. We as a global community need to take whatever steps we can to combat them.
Another goal is to document and share the differences in food production and farming techniques around the world.
